Our Diamond Years (Between 1st January 1886 and 31st December 1946). Wenona, accessed 07/02/2025, https://wenona.recollectcms.com/nodes/view/261
A special curated collection for our youngest students in years K-2. This collection highlights events and development of the School over the years 1886-1946, covering our first 60 years as a School.
Woodstock, located on West Street and then in a small building of St Thomas, opened in 1886. Miss Hooke was the Headmistress or principal. She closed Woodstock in June of 1913 and opened Wenona the next term, with some of the same students.
Woodstock had around 80 children in 1905. The School started out with a small group of 30 when it moved into School House in 1922, then rapidly doubled to around 70 children in the middle of the 1920s, approximately 200 students were here in 1930 and over 300 by 1940. Today there are close to 1,300 Wenonians.
HistorySixty year anniversaries are often commemorated by diamonds.
The early Headmistresses (also known as Principals) were Miss Hooke (1886-1919), Miss Messiter (1920) and Miss Ralston (1920-1963).
